11/30/2011 - HITRANS Welcomes Announcement on Dualling of Perth to Inverness A9

Dualling of Perth to Inverness A9 to finish by 2025

HITRANS welcomes the suggestion in the press today that the Scottish Government will next week announce the long-awaited plans to complete the dualling of the A9 from Perth to Inverness by 2025 as part of its Infrastructure Investment Plan.

HITRANS Chair Duncan MacIntyre reacted to the news reports saying:

‘’Improvement in transport infrastructure is critical to the future economic development of the Highlands and Islands, the remotest region of Scotland and the UK.  A commitment to complete the dualling of the A9 between Perth and Inverness by 2025 if confirmed will be the largest transport investment by Government in this region for more than 25 years and one that will make a significant impact on the economy of the central Highlands and the Inverness city region.  It will be a challenging project and we look forward to working with Scottish Government on its delivery’’.
