A campaign is being launched this week to promote a pioneering transport accessibility app which makes it easier for people to plan and book their travel in the Highlands and Islands. Travellers are being encouraged to download the GO-HI app for hassle-free one-stop-shop door to door travel planning and taking the stress out of commuting and making leisure trips.

As a thank you for downloading the app, travellers will be rewarded with free bus travel for one year between Inverness Airport, Dalcross, and the new airport railway station.

HITRANS, the regional transport partnership for the Highlands and Islands, has joined forces with Stagecoach to deliver the free travel offer.

Ranald Robertson, Director of HITRANS, said: “With support from the Scottish Government though the MaaS Investment fund, we have been developing the app for two years and are now ready for a major push for our residents to take advantage of its many significant benefits, such as providing a wide range of transport information and booking services to residents, tourists and business travellers. It provides instant access to information on buses, trains, taxis, car hire, car clubs, bicycle hire, air travel and ferries and this allows users to plan their journeys and find, book and pay for all modes of transport in one place using any iPhone or Android mobile device.

“I commend it to everyone in our region where travel is so important. We are delighted to be working with Stagecoach on this initiative that will allow anyone who can show they have downloaded the GO-HI app to travel at no cost on the Stagecoach bus between Inverness Airport Terminal and Inverness Airport Rail Station. “

Kevin Stewart, Minister for Transport, said: “I’m pleased to see how HITRANS and Stagecoach have been working together to help people travel sustainably using the GO-HI app. It’s a great way to help people easily access accurate and reliable travel information, which empowers them to consider using alternative ways to travel, leaving their cars at home – all of which helps to reduce our carbon emissions.”

David Beaton, Managing Director Stagecoach North Scotland added, “We’re delighted to be involved in this initiative, which encourages both local people and visitors to make multi-modal public transport journeys.”

Des Bradley, ScotRail’s Transport Integration Manager said, “The opening of the new station marked a huge step in improving transport links to Inverness Airport by rail from across the region. The offer of free bus transfer between station and terminal makes access by public transport even easier, and ScotRail is delighted to support this initiative.”
