CHRONOS Project Partnership Shortlisted at Scottish Transport Awards 2012
HITRANS has been shortlisted in two categories at the Transport Times Scottish Transport Awards 2012.
The Partnersip has been recognised for our work on the CHRONOS solar powered rail and bus information system in the following categories:
- Most Innovative Transport Project of the Year
- Excellence in Technology and Innovation
CHRONOS is a new concept in delivering information to bus and rail passengers in the most sustainable way possible utilising solar power to deliver real time service information. The CHRONOS project partnership secured funding from the Technology Strategy Board to develop
the innovative product. The Technology Strategy Board is an executive non-departmental public body (NDPB), which is sponsored by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.
The main objectives of the project have been:
- To build a cost-effective maximum capability display solution which gives those in rural and low foot-fall areas confidence in public transport through the provision of service information.
- To create a customer information system that offers a significant whole life cost saving when compared with the alternative traditional power supply systems.
- To offer a product that will help contribute to public sector climate change objectives/targets. The product has been born from the commitment of the partners towards carbon efficiency.
Phase 1 of the project saw the deployment of four solar powered real time information displays in Moray while Phase 2 has focussed on developing the technology to make it fit for a rail purpose.
Phase 2 of the project has allowed the deployment of a new version of the solar powered displays to be deployed at 10 railway stations in the Highlands.
The Awards, in association with Transport Times and supported by the Scottish Government and Transport Scotland will be presented on 14th June 2012 at the Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow.
