Western Isles representative elected new Vice-Chairman of HITRANS
The new Vice-Chairman of HITRANS, the regional transport partnership for the Highlands and Islands, is Councillor John Mackay, of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Council.
Councilllor Mackay, who represents Ness and the West Side on Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar, was unanimously elected at a recent meeting of HITRANS at Inverness.
He represents the Comhairle on HITRANS through his role as Chairman of the Transport and Infrastructure Committee and has served on HITRANS since 2012.
He replaces Councillor Thomas Prag, The Highland Council, who stepped down from membership of HITRANS following a change in Administration at The Highland Council.
Councillor Prag’s place on HITRANS has been taken by Councillor Audrey Sinclair, Chairman of Planning Development and Infrastructure Committee.
Chairman of HITRANS is Councillor James Stockan, Orkney Council, who has welcomed Councillor Mackay’s election.
He said: “John has a strong interest in transport and infrastructure issues and I look forward to working with him at the helm of HITRANS to strengthen transport links in our large and rural area.”
