 INCLUSION

Description:

Inclusive mobility solutions across European prioritised areas. The main aim of the INCLUSION Pilot Lab in Scotland is to improve accessibility to public transport for older persons, young adults, teenagers and tourists in Cairngorms National Park, with e-bikes and car clubs being the main measures to be implemented to achieve this objective. HITRANS installed e-bike hubs in Aviemore and Grantown-on-Spey, with the hope of promoting a modal shift from private cars to e-bikes and subsequently creating a safer travel environment. HITRANS is also working with car club operators in the area to encourage moving their services into CNP to provide additional, more sustainable transport services with existing car club schemes operating near CNP. The aim being that the e-bike and car club services will complement each other to replace key stages of journeys that are largely completed by private car use at present, due to a lack of available services. Complementary to this, HITRANS is working with MaaS Scotland, Transport Scotland, local stakeholders and experts to assess if Mobility as a Service (MaaS) could work in CNP, particularly for tourists arriving in the area who wish to complete their journeys without the use of private cars. This will form ongoing research throughout the Pilot Lab and will be evaluated at the end of the project, along with the outcomes of the e-bike and car club measures.

Status: Ongoing

Timeline: Oct 2017 – Oct 2020

HITRANS activities:

  • e-bikes were marketed across newspaper articles/magazines, HItravel Liftshare was advertised on petrol pumps throughout the HITRANS area resulting in increased membership/website traffic, and an STV campaign was launched for our Thistle Assistance Cards
  • Discussions ongoing with car club operators to expand services into CNP, but Covid-19 will delay progress on this
  • E-bike pilots were launched in Aviemore, Grantown-on-Spey and Fort William in January with positive responses so far – however, Covid-19 has resulted in these projects being paused for the foreseeable future
  • Completed user surveys to-date & interviews with bike shop owners will help to gather evaluation data throughout this time
